| Science, a General Statement |
As a veterinarian I am personally aware of the practical application of scientific research in our daily lives. One of the most important things the federal government can do is to create an environment that fosters research and development in space and science.
Colorado benefits from the presence of numerous space and science research engines: the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and National Institute for Standards and Technology are just a few of the national assets headquartered or located in Colorado. The presence of such profound federal facilities is matched by the research being done by our public and private research universities and military facilities for a unique combination in the nation. I have and will continue to work to invest in scientific research that will benefit all Americans.
I believe we must create the proper environment for the private sector to develop, research, and market their technologies. I have worked with my Senate colleagues to accomplish this goal through the High Technology Task Force. Source: Candidate Website (10/02/2004) |

| Technology, a General Statement |
Colorado has long benefited from the presence of our cutting edge research universities and innovative technology and telecommunications companies. Our state continually ranks among the top nationally in advanced degrees, technology workers per capita, average wage, and small business development. In my role as a founding member of the High Tech Task Force in the Senate I have worked hard to facilitate a policy environment that encourages competition, innovation and development in telecommunications, research, applied sciences, and education. Technology has virtually unlimited potential to improve the quality of life for all Americans. Source: allard.senate.gov/ public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Legislation.ViewIssue (04/21/2008) |

| Space, a General Statement |
Commercial space technology and development has contributed in numerous ways to improving our quality of life as well as enhanced our national security. Colorado is on the forefront of advancing commercial space technology that will both create jobs and allow the U.S. to remain the global leader in space exploration. I also encourage the advancement of commercial space in support of the Administration's Vision for Space Exploration Program. This program includes a commitment to a long-term human and robotic program to explore the solar system, completion of work on the International Space Station, retirement of the shuttle, development of a crew exploration vehicle (Orion), and return to the moon with an eventual establishment of a lunar base.
